seems that not all accounts can play yet. firstly you need to turn it on in preferences in gmail. I had a quick squiz at the nice web pages where they explain how to configure a dozen email clients (but not TB!) and it looked like it was all TLS and SMTP AUTH so I turned it all on and voila it worked. Not having folders on gmail is interesting when you use TB!, as all my email is one folder. I can see some uses for having IMAP support and SMTP support is quite useful as well.
