#2 is the direct "cause" of #1. If there is a Sounds directory, TB
will look for specifically named WAV files to play for specific
events. Remove, move or rename the folder to stop the sounds or
remove, move or rename the specific WAV file as required.

No required for sound support. It is built in and was enumerated in a
message from Max Masuitin either here or on TBBETA. I suggest a search
of the GMane archives to find the original.

They downloaded and installed these sounds from the German TB support
