In the account.cfn file. You can edit that via the menu:
 account -> properties -> transport

TB remembers the downloaded messages in the account.m_d or account.m_r
file. Both of them have something to do with these kind of things.
When you don't keep messages on the server for x days, then TB doesn't
store any message references, as it tells the server to delete the
downloaded messages.
