  Thank you, Miguel, for laying out the process. It's good to have it
  documented clearly. Maybe that description will make its way into the
  help file eventually.

  As you'll note, Stuart Cuddy supplied the essential first step of
  selecting the message and right clicking to get the context menu in
  which "test filter" was listed. And once I had that bit of information
  I was able to test the filter I created, which worked as expected by
  the way.

  I appreciate your help.
