I've never noticed the behaviour you describe, so I tested it. This is
what I did:

Created two AB groups (hidden enabled)
Created one contact belonging to both
Created one contact belonging to one
Deleted the group with two contacts
Only the contact belonging only to the deleted group was gone

Created two AB groups (hidden enabled)
Created one contact belonging to both
Deleted one group
The remaining group had no entries

Created two AB groups (hidden enabled)
Created two contacts belonging to both
Deleted one group
The remaining group had one entry

Definitely a bug, but not one that's likely to surface in a real life
environment. I added a not to your bug.
