Look in Options/Preferences/Viewer-Editor, where there are font settings in the submenus PlainText/MicroEd and HTML/Windows Editor. These settings govern not only the Edit Mail Message window but also the Message windows where you read messages--View Folder or Preview. At least, that's how it is with the current version of The Bat! Depending on what Operating System you have on the laptop, you might also be able to change the DPI settings in the Operating System. In XP you will find this in Desktop/Properties/Settings/Advanced.
