CPS is "characters per second", meaning 8-bit characters. So you can
calculate from there.

I criticised this a few years ago, as Chinese characters are 16 bits
long, but Stefan had a professional explanation for using the 8-bit
CPS measurement, but I forgot what it was. It made sense to me at the
time though, so I dropped the matter.
