I would assume it issues a DEL command for the UID, and if that doesn't work, it could mean that Orange doesn't handle the DEL command correctly. But I wonder why you care. GMX also deletes messages on server after 60 days (the free accounts; paid-for account can store them forever), and TB won't download them again, so I have no problem if they stay there for some time.
