The files look like plain printable ASCII of the complete
message header and body -- minus any attachment(s).

Not that I'm aware of.

I didn't find that setting under Options.  In my version it
has moved to 'Files & directories' ... but I changed it
anyway, to see what happens.

Good idea.  Don't know why I didn't think of it.  I'll give it
a try.
