Sorry for the audacious subject, but TheBat! simply refuses to
authenticate with Gmail SMTP while the exact same settings work with
Thunderbird.

I'm using the trial version of TheBat! Professional Version 3.85.03

The error that I keep getting is as follows:
04/12/2006, 21:27:33: SEND - sending mail messages - 1 messages in queue
04/12/2006, 21:27:35: SEND - Initiating TLS handshake

!04/12/2006, 21:27:38: SEND - Server reports error. The response is:

04/12/2006, 21:27:39: SEND - connection finished - 0 messages sent
04/12/2006, 21:27:39: SEND - Some messages were not sent - check the
log for details
My SMTP settings are as follows. My alternative settings are in
brackets. (No surprises here though):

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Connection: TLS (STARTLS), Port: 465 (587)

Perform SMTP authentication (RFC 2554) is *checked*.
Use specific setting is *selected*.

User:
Password: correctpassword

Require secure authentication is *unchecked*.

I've tried every single permutation of the above settings as a search
in this forum (using "gmail smtp") has thrown to me.

Can someone kindly point me in the right direction? I've been using
TheBat! since 2000-2004. Unfortunately, the lures of open source
seduced me to Thunderbird.

Now, I'm back since I'm tired by the limited features of Thunderbird,
but being unable to work with Gmail's smtp is fatal.
