Dear Miguel, > To start with, try checking for email every 3-5 minutes or so and see > what happens. It is not the first time I hear about problems when email > is read so frequently.
Thank you Miguel! I *think* I found the cause. I rebooted again, then decided not to immediately launch The Bat! Suddenly Kaspersky came up saying that new virus definitions needed to be downloaded, because the current ones were old. Once the new definitions had arrived, The Bat! ran smoothly again. I guess The Bat! doesn't like it when Kaspersky forces it to stop reading mail (which only happens if the virus definition files haven't been updated for so many hours or so)? The Bat! has been running stable for an hour now.
