It's just another way of Read Confirmation. I have set TB! to ignore
them for incoming mails. However, sometimes I request them, on the
off-chance that the recipient uses Outlook...

If I get a Read Confirmation back, I know the message has been
dispalyed. If I don't get one, I know as little as if I hadn't
requested it. So, nothing is lost.
