There appears nothing to be wrong with the signature delimiter that

Well, that's supposed to be so. All mature mail and usenet clients do
that.
The signature shows in a faint font:
That's TB's default configuration, but it can be changed at
 Options -> Preferences -> Viewer/Editor -> Message Viewer/Editor
With some signatures there's no difference between text and signature:
Probably your signature delimiter isn't up to specs (check whether
you've included the trailing space)
How it shows at your recipient:
Depends on whether you're using a HTML editor or not. When you're
using HTML the signature shows there just as it shows with you. When
you're using plain text the signature shows as plain text or as
they've configured their mail client to show signatures.
