Run soylatte or the 1.6 dev preview. I've been running soy latte for a while and it works great.
SoyLatte: http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/ Click on the "Mercurial Stable Branch" and use the user / password on the page there. I installed to same location as the other vms at /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions If I recall, I needed to sudo to copy to that location. When you install into Eclipse, just pick the root dir for the jdk and then I think you need to say it's a "Macintosh JVM" or something. Something other than the default.
