I made a similar suggestion off-list. We should know, for any given patch,
whether or not that patch will invalidate the boot jar. Given that, we
should be able to encode such information into the patch itself. There has
been talk of including a manifest of some sort into the patch, and this could
probably be an attribute of such a manifest.
