Quite so; I wouldn't want the logging to be gone entirely.  My hope was 
that first, output could be reliably sent to files, and second, that 
there could be at least an option to have it *only* sent there.

It sounds like Maven bugs are preventing this for the time being.  If I 
find time, I'll try to devise a perl script or such that can wrap the 
Maven task and do the necessary filtering.
