Call for Papers *Journal of Universal Computer Science (JUCS)* *Special Issue on Internet of Things* *INTRODUCTION* *Journal of Universal Computer Science (JUCS)* is seeking original manuscripts for special issue on Internet of Things (IoT), scheduled to be published in the June of 2012. Significant advances have been achieved over the past two decades in the area of distributed computing, handheld devices, embedded systems, RFID, wireless sensor networks, and Internet-connection of large-scale thing networks. These advances provide IoT -- a new computing paradigm to extend the Internet into the physical world by integrating everyday things with pervasive connectivity and accessibility of the Internet. IoT allows everyday things to be managed remotely and acted as access points to Internet services, thus facilitating people daily life. Research in IoT promises to transform our real world with systems that will far exceed those of today in terms of adaptability, efficiency, reliability, usability and user-centric applicability. IoT systems find direct applicability in a wide range of areas and disciplines, consisting of for instance: a) *Wireless and mobile sensing, tracking and networking*: enabling distributed systems of numerous sensors, actuators, mobile devices and RFIDs to identify and manage things and satisfy application requirements; b) *Intelligent vehicle systems*, that embeds communication and computation capabilities with tracking and controlling vehicles in physical world to handle various challenges of efficient, green and safe transportation. IoT blends several technologies into the Internet and thus suffers from great technical problems that needed to be addressed. This special issue intends to investigate these open problems and overview the current findings, research directions and experimental settings. *SCOPES* Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: ** · Architecture · Middleware · Design and cross-layer optimizations · Data acquisition and dissemination · Data analysis and fusion · Things-to-things collaboration model · Real-time communication with smart things · Emerging IoT business models and process changes · Security, privacy, opportunities and risks · Searching and discovering things and their services by Internet · Mobile tracking systems · Wireless sensing systems · Intelligent transportation systems · Smart grid technologies *SUBMISSION GUIDELINES* All submitted papers (including the invited papers from IEEE iThings-2011 and IEEE CPSCom-2011, as well as the open submissions) will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness and clarity of expression. All submissions must not have been previously published or currently reviewed for conference and journal publication elsewhere. All submissions must be written in English and formatted according to the guidelines of (JUCS). Its guidelines and templates can be accessed by http://www.jucs.org/ujs/jucs/info/submissions. ** *IMPORTANT DATES* · Submission deadline: Dec 01, 2011 · 1st round review result: Feb 01, 2012 · Submission of revised papers: Mar 01, 2012 · Final notification: Apr 01, 2012 *GUEST EDITORS* *Daqiang Zhang, *[email protected], Nanjing Normal University, China* * *Huansheng Ning, *[email protected], Beihang University, China** *Kevin S.
