The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a university center of excellence in Defense science and technologies, with a focus in naval missions and related areas. ARL is currently searching to hire a Department Head for the Intelligent Control Department in the Information Science and Technology (IST) Division, part of the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO). The Intelligent Control Department researches and develops innovative control mechanisms, strategies, and related technologies for non-traditional, distributed, and highly nonlinear systems. Your responsibilities include: Seek external research funds, interface with sponsors, and represent the IST Division in areas related to Intelligent Systems; assemble and support relevant parts of the strategic plans of the Division; direct a small group of research engineers and faculty; and pursue excellence in research by executing funded research and guiding junior colleagues. Faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Requirements include a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or any related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of experience in the following is required: Machine Intelligence; Sensor Fusion; Multi-Robot collaboration; distributed decision and control; and cognitive or social networks.
