Special Issue " High-Quality and High-Definition Multimedia Content Delivery
over Mobile Networks"
Advances in Multimedia (ISSN: 1687-5680)

Website: http://www.hindawi.com/journals/am/si/mobile/
Deadline: 23 March 2012

The volume and variety of multimedia content and related services have been
growing at an impressive speed in the last years. One enabling factor is the
proliferation of powerful portable devices, such as smart phones, tablets,
and laptops equipped with small high-resolution cameras and multi-homed
wireless network interfaces (3G/4G, BT, Wi-Fi, even WiMax). This fact allows
people to create multimedia content in a simple way, thus dramatically
enlarging the population of multimedia "producers" and "consumers" of
high-quality and high-definition (HQ/HD) multimedia contents. Mobile
multimedia applications such as online gaming, video conferencing, video
streaming, IPTV, 3D video, and peer-to-peer streaming are examples of high
demanding applications that will be fully supported in a near future over a
great number of mobile devices. So, several technological challenges need to
be addressed to pave the way for this kind of applications towards their
deployment in last-generation mobile devices. So, efficient coding, wireless
delivery, cross-layer design, quality of service (network and application),
low-complexity algorithms, and power-aware networking are some of the areas
that would be responsible for the success of HQ/HD multimedia content
delivery.

The objective of this special issue is to bring together state-of-the-art
research contributions as well as review articles that address the key
aspects of HQ/HD multimedia content delivery over mobile networks. Original
papers describing completed and unpublished work not currently under review
by any other journal/magazine/conference are solicited. Potential topics
include, but are not limited to:

- HQ/HD video coding
- Multiview and 3D video coding
- Perceptual image and video coding techniques
- Quality assessment for HQ/HD/3D multimedia Content
- Low-complexity multimedia coding algorithms
- Real-time reliable multimedia streaming
- QoS provisioning in heterogeneous mobile networks
- Multimedia delivery over multi-homed devices
- Network scalability, mobility, and secure issues
- Simulation models and tools for multimedia delivery
- Test-bed and prototype implementations
- Emerging standards and technologies for wireless multimedia communications
