DIRECTOR, NATIONAL CENTRE FOR GEOCOMPUTATION, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF IRELAND
MAYNOOTH
National University of Ireland Maynooth is a dynamic and vibrant research-led
University with an interdisciplinary focus and major strengths in the Sciences
and Engineering. The university is situated in the historic town of Maynooth,
20km from the centre of Dublin City, and in the heart of the beautiful
countryside of Kildare.
The National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG) was founded at the National
University of Ireland Maynooth in 2004 through funding provided by Science
Foundation Ireland. Since then the NCG has become firmly established as a
leading international research centre in the field of Geocomputation, with over
thirty researchers,funding of circa€2M per annum, and is a major intellectual
centre committed to extending understanding and utilisation of the capture,
analysis and modelling of spatial data.
The National University of Ireland Maynooth is now seeking to make an
appointment at professorial level to lead this internationally important
research centre.
The successful candidate will
• be recognised as a world-class researcher in Geocomputation or
Geographical Information Science,
• have a demonstrated capacity for strategic and dynamic leadership on
an international stage,
• have a successful track record in building strategic partnerships and
securing independent funding from public competitive sources and/or through
private investment,
• have a research profile that will complement existing strengths in
Geocomputation, Spatial Analysis and Social Sciences at NUI Maynooth,
• be entrepreneurial, committed to working with industry and interested
in commercialisation.
