The Computer Systems and Telematics Group at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany (http://cst.mi.fu-berlin.de) is looking for a highly motivated researcher (PhD student) in the field of Internet backbone, its monitoring and analysis within the project Peeroskop. The objective of Peeroskop is the protection of the Internet as critical infrastructure. Research work will include: * active and passive Internet measurement * analysis of peering structures * vulnerability of the Internet infrastructure. Peeroskop is a joint project with universities and industry (e.g., the two largest German IXPs). **Required** Master degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a similar discipline; fluency in written and spoken English. **Desired** Candidates are expected to have a strong background in performance modeling and quantitative methods, and hands-on network measurement experience. A plus is related research project experience. * Internet routing (preferred BGP) and network security * active and passive Internet measurement * modeling and analysis of Internet routing structures * visualization of large-scale network topologies * development of software frameworks * experienced in Java/C++ programming **Salary** The employments will be according to the German public service pay scale E13 TVL-L FU (approx. 40k EUR per year including social security and tax).
