In Dec. 2009, Lars Eggert kicked off a discussion on this list regarding
concerns about non-author presenters, which led to a number of other
issues, including conference costs, which were investigated at length on
this list.
I have some news regarding the original thread. In my new role as
Director of Conference Operations, I had the opportunity to raise some
motions at ICC based on these discussions this past week.
I am please to summarize two motions that passed:
1) The ComSoc "no-show" policy has been updated to indicate
that papers must be presented by one of its authors.
2) A new ComSoc policy has been established that prohibits
changing the author list of a paper after the CFP due date.
These policies directly reflect concerns raised on this list, and - as
always - there are provisions in the ComSoc for handling exceptions
where warranted. The exact text will appear on all new CFPs and
submission sites of ComSoc conferences.
If you have other issues you'd like to have considered, please do post
