The Information Science and Technology Division of the Applied
Research Laboratory
at Penn State University is seeking a Department Head for their
Intelligent Systems
Department. This is a research faculty position. Responsibilities
include: lead a small
group of faculty and research engineers to pursue excellence in
innovative basic and
applied research; supervise junior colleagues and B.S. Hons., M.S. and
Ph.D. theses,
define and establish innovative research directions; develop strategic
plans to support
the strategic goals of the Division; seek external research funds;
interface with sponsors;
and represent the Information Science and Technology Division’s
interests in Intelligent
Systems.

ARL is an organizational unit of Penn State University at University
Park and our research
faculty work in multi-disciplinary collaborations with faculty from
several academic
departments and advanced research centers.  Research faculty will have
the option of
associating with an academic department of the university at the
discretion of the department
and to teach courses and supervise undergraduate, graduate and PhD theses.

Faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience.
Requirements
include a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science,
Mathematics, or any related
field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five
years of postdoctoral
experience in one or more of the following fields is required: Machine
Intelligence; Sensor
Fusion; Multi-Robot collaboration; distributed decision and control;
cognitive systems; and
social networks. Experience in Autonomous Systems is preferred.
