The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), Doha, Qatar, invites applications for 2 full-time Research Scientist (Postdoc Fellow) in the area of Cooperative Systems for Advanced Mobility Services / Cellular Vehicular Communication. The expected start date is Oct/Dec 2012. Interested candidates are requested to send a detailed CV (including the names of at least three referees), graduate studies transcript of records, research statement, and a cover letter to [email protected].
Position 1: Cooperative Systems for Advanced Mobility Services: =================================================== The candidate is expected to pursue research in the area of cooperative wireless vehicular communications. The objective is to develop a global framework for data collection and information distribution through cooperative systems by enriching existing services and solutions and/or proposing new mobility services. Collected data needs to be cleaned and processed then customized useful information shall be extracted to provide valuable smart mobility services to consumer and enterprises. These processes require the development of advanced communication protocols, algorithms, and applications, which could be distributed between the different components: on-board units, road-side units, and central units. A study of the integration of cooperative systems in the Masarak eco-system (www.masarak.com) which has been launched recently by QMIC will be conducted along the project. Furthermore, contributions to standardization working groups at ETSI, IEEE, and ISO in the field of wireless communications for ITS and research publications will be one of the main research dissemination tools. The researcher will be involved in a new three year project funded by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) in the context of cooperative wireless vehicular communications for ITS and his/her research results will be published in international conferences and journals and presented to relevant standardization bodies. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering by the time of appointment. Key job requirements include: - Strong background in wireless networking - Experience in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) services and applications - Strong English communication skills (written and verbal) - Ability to work independently - Prior industry experience is an asset Position 2: Cellular Vehicular Communication: ===================================== The candidate is expected to pursue research in the area of cooperative wireless vehicular communications. The objective is to investigate research issues related to the use of advanced cellular technologies for vehicular communications and compare it with the 802.11p. Through a combined physical-level and system-level simulators, an extensive comparison of both systems will be conducted. The focus will be given to (advanced) LTE technologies. The candidate has to propose new advanced mechanisms and protocols aiming at enhancing the global cooperative system running in the on-board and road units and the technology selection procedure in order to optimize the overall network performance. A real-system (as an extension of the CopITS QMIC system) will be built and selected applications will be demonstrated in Doha. Furthermore, contributions to standardization working groups at ETSI, IEEE, and ISO in the field of wireless communications for ITS and research publications will be one of the main research dissemination tools. The researcher will be involved in a new three year project funded by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) in the context of cooperative wireless vehicular communications for ITS and his/her research results will be published in international conferences and journals and presented to relevant standardization bodies. Employment benefits (for both positions): ================================= - Competitive tax-free salary in Qatar - Furnished accommodation or housing allowance in accordance with QMICs HR policies - Annual round trip air tickets for research scientist and eligible dependents in accordance with QMICs HR policies - Educational allowance for candidate's school-aged children in accordance with QMICs HR policies - Annual leave and end of service gratuity in accordance with QMICs HR policies - Support for presenting research papers at conferences About QMIC: ========== QMIC (www.qmic.com) is an applied research and development center founded by Qatar University in Collaboration with and at the Qatar Science &Technology Park (QSTP) to leverage the use of emerging mobility and wireless technologies in creating solutions and smart applications for use in a number of markets including Transportation, Utilities, Healthcare, and Environment. QMIC was founded with the objective of filling the existing gap in the region for institutions focusing on applied research and solutions delivery. QMIC has strategic objectives in the areas of local capacity building, innovations leadership, and in becoming a virtual R&D center for local and regional partners.
