*** Call for Multimedia Datasets and Demos*** ACM Multimedia Systems Conference (MMSys 2013) http://www.mmsys.org/?q=node/68 February 27 - March 1, 2013 Oslo, Norway
*** Important Dates *** Submission deadline: November 15, 2012 Author notification: December 15, 2012 Camera ready: January 15, 2013 *** Submission system *** Datasets: http://submit.mmsys2013.ndlab.net/datasets Demos: http://submission.ndlab.net/mmsys13-demos/ Submission info for all tracks is available from a single conference page: http://www.mmsys.org/?q=node/72 Templates: http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates *** Call for datasets *** The ACM Multimedia Systems conference provides a forum for researchers, engineers, and scientist to present and share their latest research findings in multimedia systems. While research about specific aspects of multimedia systems is regularly published in the various proceedings and transactions of the networking, operating system, real-time system, and database communities, MMSys aims to cut across these domains in the context of multimedia data types. This provides a unique opportunity to view the intersections and interplay of the various approaches and solutions developed across these domains to deal with multimedia data types. As an integral part of the conference since 2012, the Dataset track provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to make their work available (and citable) to the multimedia community. MMSys encourages and recognizes dataset sharing, and seeks contributions in all areas of multimedia (not limited to MM systems). Authors publishing datasets will benefit by increasing the public awareness of their effort in collecting the datasets. In particular, authors of datasets accepted for publication will receive: * Dataset hosting from MMSys for at least 5 years * Citable publication of the dataset description in the proceedings * 15 minutes oral presentation All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 members of the technical program committee. Datasets will be evaluated by the committee on the basis of the collection methodology and the value of the dataset as a resource for the research community. TPC: Xavier Anguera, Telefonica Research, Spain Cyril Concolato, Telecom Paristech, France Petros Daras, Informatics and Telematics Institute, Greece Rene Kaiser, Joanneum, Austria Martha Larson, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands Noel O'Connor, Dublin City University, Ireland Mohammad Soleymani, Imperial College, UK Christian Timmerer, Klagenfurt University, Austria Wei Tsang Ooi, National University of Singapore, Singapore Wanmin Wu, University of California at San Diego, USA Authors interested in submitting a dataset should: 1. Make their data available by providing a public URL for download 2. Write a short paper describing the format of the data collected, the methodology used to collect the dataset, and basic characterizing statistics from the dataset. Papers should be at most 6 pages long (in PDF format) prepared in the ACM style and written in English. Submissions should be appropriately anonymized. Previous accepted datasets (and short papers) can be accessed at http://web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/mmsys-dataset// *** Call for demos *** The Demo session is intended as an arena where researchers, either the traditional research community or industry, can display practical proof of their research ideas. Demos should be an implementation of a new system, or improvements of components within a known system, that is described in an accompanying demo paper. The subject area of the Demo Sessions is the same as for the MMSys conference; see a detailed description under in the “Technical Sessions” page. The demo paper should be up to 6 pages long; in PDF format; in ACM style; written in English; and contain information on the following: - What will be demonstrated? - How will it be demonstrated? - What is the novelty of the work? - Name at least one example of how the research can benefit present or future applications. Authors of accepted demo papers will receive the following: - Citable publication of the Demo submission in the proceedings of MMSys 2013. - Presentation of the Demo in a special purpose Demo Session. - Presentation of the Demo in the reception area (some dedicated spaces can be arranged) All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 members of the Technical Program Committee. Demos will be evaluated on the basis of their quality, relevance to MMSys subject area, timeliness, potential for present or future applications and importance for present or future research. It is possible to submit a demo with a one page description instead of the demo paper. These contributions will be eligible to be demonstrated, but not for citation through inclusion in the MMSys proceedings. *** Chairs *** Datasets: Pablo Cesar, CWI, the Netherlands Demos: Leslie Liu, IBM Research Paul Vigmostad, Opera Software *** Contact *** For further queries and extra information, please contact us at [email protected] _______________________________________________ IEEE Communications Society Tech.
