As an intern, you will participate in helping the FCC tackle some of the most challenging problems in communication technology today, such as: - Making more spectrum available for wireless communications through technology advances, e.g., new transmission methods, improvements in receivers, advanced sharing techniques, interference mitigation, etc. - Improving interference evaluation methods to take into account statistical and cost/benefit considerations. - Assisting with the transition of our phone-based 9-1-1 system to one based on Internet protocols. - Ensuring that phone calls to rural areas are reliable. - Determining the location of indoor emergency calls. - Improving the survivability of communication networks during natural disasters. - Making it easier for people with hearing or visual disabilities to communicate. - Providing information to consumers about technical topics. - Furthering current actions to facilitate the introduction and use of broadband communications to improve energy efficiency, health care, education and transportation. You will help solve these important problems by implementing software prototypes, analyzing data and collecting technical information.
