The Centre for Wireless Communication, at the University of Oulu (Finland) is looking for a motivated full-time Ph.D. student to conduct cutting-edge research in topics related to heterogeneous and small cell networks. The position is fully funded with a competitive monthly salary (2300€) over a period of three years. The research work will be carried within the scope of the CELTIC European project “SHARING” (Self-organized Heterogeneous Advanced RadIo Networks Generation) . The project tackles issues pertaining to resource optimization in heterogeneous networks, intra-LTE radio access offloading, intra-RAT radio access offloading, 3G/4G/Wi-Fi integration, self-organizing networks (SON), radio resource management (RRM), resource allocation, energy efficiency, and mobility and load balancing, etc.
The interested candidate should meet the following criteria: - Knowledge of radio access networks (3G, LTE, LTE-A), particularly on radio network optimization and radio resource management - Optimization techniques (statistical/stochastic optimization, game theory, reinforcement learning) - Basic knowledge of probability and stochastic processes - Ability to pursue independent research. - Excellent writing and communication skills in English. For full consideration, applications should be sent by e-mail to Prof. Matti Latva-aho and Dr. Mehdi Bennis at: [email protected] and [email protected] including: - A cover letter indicating the candidate's research interests. - Detailed curriculum vitae. - List of publications (VERY IMPORTANT). - List of relevant graduate courses taken along with grades. - Contact of two or three referees.
