Roger,

Good job on taking the time to figure all this out.

FYI... I am know handicap expert. I have never used the program or done
scoring. I may be wrong in understanding how you apply the adjustments. Here is
my question. How do you come up with 66.29 from DP-N 69.1 - JU .995 - MN .995 -
BM .995 - L3 .974 = DP-N 66.29 ? I come up with DP-N 69.1-MN .995-BM .995-L3
.974=DP-N 66.136 and when you add in the jib hit I get DP-N 69.1-JU .995-MN
.995-BM -.995-L3 .974=65.141. Is this correct?

I applaud this fully transparent communication.
We use Portsmouth ratings so we can race our (sometimes very) different boats.
The Portsmouth ratings are indeed unlikely to be accurate after 2
modifications, and I do not support using 3 or 4 mods.
Perhaps SCHRS system can provide more accurate ratings, ... someday.

That being said, Scott is an excellent sailor, and every time I have competed
against him, he made fewer mistakes than I did, had a well-prepared boat that
didn't break down, and sailed his boat to its fullest potential. I suspect he
comes out on top of the ratings in most scenarios, and I will continue to try
to get to the line first, on whatever boat I bring.

The screenshot is attached now vs. the sailwave file.

Hello,
Due to the number of inquiries as to scoring on Wayward Winds, I am going to
respond via public post and send this across email as well.. The issue that I
have received so many inquiries on.. is, Scott Tuma's rating on the P18-2. So
let me address this now. His rating was derived from the table of DP-N
modifications in the US sailing Portsmouth handbook along with the table of
pre-calculated classes.. Keep in mind that once more than two modifiers are
combined, the ratings become unstable. You can find that statement on page 19
of the handbook. (top of the page)

I had a long conversation with Nathan Titcomb Offshore Director for US Sailing.
For those of you who do not know, the offshore department is where ratings are
produced for sailboat races. I explained to him the situation and what I knew
to be fact about the modifications to Frankenkitty. In his opinion, I applied
the rating for Scott appropriately if not punitively.

At Nathan Titcomb's recommendation, I am putting together a group of Certified
Race Officials to fully measure Scott's boat. Not only is Scott willing to let
us measure the boat, he welcomes it. He also stands by his offer to switch
boats with anyone. I also plan on getting the folks over at SCHRS involved as
well.

So now back to the scoring on Wayward Winds. So in preparation for this
message. I re-scored the race and posted it to the sailwave results folder. I
am also adding a screenshot because the sailwave site has been kinda fluky
lately. This time I also added a larger jib modification as well. So here is
how this works. DP-N 69.1 - JU .995 - MN .995 - BM .995 - L3 .974 = DP-N 66.29.
This is one more modifier than what I told Nathan Titcomb about.
.

THE FINAL STANDINGS REMAIN THE SAME EVEN WITH THE ADDITIONAL MODIFIER AND
REDUCED DP-N. PERIOD
