SCHRS is miles above DPN. The US is the only ones not using it. It is THE
handicap system for the rest of the world. The problem is not finding people
to support SCHRS, it’s finding people to support DPN.

Charlie,

I think one of the main issues is that this scoring system is not
recognized/promoted by US Sailing. I think in theory SCHRS will be better, but
it requires an organization that will continue to support it and to get boats
measured/certified. It will be interesting to see some what you discover
trying this out. So far I have been reluctant to put the effort into
introducing this in our scoring as it comes with a learning curve and effort
placed upon the few people still willing to serve at our events.

Thanks,
Mike

Howdy folks!

Information given to me by various sources indicates that the Portsmouth
handicap system for us is woefully out of date.
Unless something drastic happens, LCYC will be using the SCHRS scoring system
for Wurstfest beach cat scoring.

Both Sailwave and Regatta Network can handle SCHRS. We’ve always had trouble
with Regatta Network when we try to do “race-within-race” scoring when we want
to award an “overall" prize. (Call me if you want details). In addition,
we’ve found that RN is not too kind to us when we try to change a class from
class-legal “one-design” to something else. (We had to use Excel to score the
Hobie 16 class at WFII in 2018. RN couldn’t handle us trying to use Portsmouth
numbers instead of scratch scoring - one H16 was single-handing. We would have
saved a lot of time if we’d just used Excel from the beginning.)

I don’t know if Sailwave will be any better, but we’ll see.

Anyway, I’ll rescore Wurstfest II 2018 in Sailwave as a test, and in
preparation for 2019 Wurstfest. I’ll let you know when it is ready.

Will Rottgering is our SCHRS rep. Please contact Will for more info.

Here are the current SCHRS ratings: https://schrs.com/ratings.php .

I have no idea how the Fleet feels about SCHRS - but IMHO we may start
considering going to SCHRS. Not much to it really (so far).

Keep warm,
Charlie Mayer
