"We are excited to announce the public beta of several new features
for the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2): Amazon CloudWatch,
a web service for monitoring AWS cloud resources, Auto Scaling for
automatically growing and shrinking Amazon EC2 capacity based on
demand, and Elastic Load Balancing for distributing incoming traffic
across Amazon EC2 compute instances. Together, these capabilities
provide you with visibility into the health and usage of your AWS
compute resources, enhance application performance, and lower costs."
This a clear example for those startups who live using or extending
some other services. With this, all of them that build some payed
service for Amazon infrastructure to scale and monitor, are screwed!
No matter what they could offer (better, faster, slicker), it will
never be the same than those AWS tools. People will choose AWS and not
any other.
Yet, this isn't enough, since AWS solved what we were asking for quite
a while; a balancer. "Elastic Load Balancing automatically distributes
incoming application traffic across multiple Amazon EC2 instance"
... and that's how the cookie crumbles!
