BTW - for a slightly different approach, check out the ICEM CFD Tcl/Tk
compiler at
http://www.icemcfd.com/tcl/ice.html
"Version 2.0 of the tcl compiler is now available. Version was
released on April 23, 1998. This version inaugurates our
multiple-backend product that will allow users to automatically
convert tcl scripts to tcl bytecode, java bytecode, java source code
or C. Additionally, users can direct the compiler to generate a
portable tcl file that can be loaded on any architechture running our
enhanced 8.0 interpreter. Version 2.0 emits tcl byte code only,
version 2.1 will emit Java byte code, and version 2.2 will emit
C. Version 2.0 compiles the tcl commands "list" and "lappend" inline
resulting in additional speed improvements over the Sun on-the-fly
byte compiler. Version 2.0 includes TclLint, a program for analyzing
possible errors in Tcl code. This program was released around April 1,
1997."
The compiler costs $600 ($200 for edu pricing). I have not checked
it out lately, but it might be interesting.
