This recent press release by the Met Council says that our politicians are
out of touch with our transportation needs:
http://www.metrocouncil.org/news/news_341.htm

In a recent survey, "75% of respondents said they agree that light rail,
exclusive busways and commuter rail lines are needed to meet the metro
area's long range transportation needs" and "94% of respondents said city
and suburban neighborhoods should provide many transportation options,
including walking, biking, driving and public transit or buses." This gives
us the firm message that although so many people drive, they do not enjoy
having it as their only option.

This issue is deeply connected not only with the expansion of Metro Transit
and commuter rail in the metro, but also affordable housing and
redevelopment. More effort should be made in the short term to improve bike
lanes and buslines, and in the long term the style and density of new
development has to change.
