The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning and operating
agency for the seven-county metro area. The Council advocates Smart
Growth for vital communities and a competitive region. It runs the
bus system, collects and treats wastewater, manages water resources
preservation, plans regional parks and administers funds for housing
opportunities for families with low and moderate incomes. The 17-
member Council board is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of
the Governor.
