I applied for the met council. I also sent over 20 letters of support from legislators, elected officials and business leaders in my district. I applied 4 years ago, and came in second place. This year, I didn't make it through the first selection process. Partly I think it's because I am an unabashed DFL activist, and also my district (6) had a lot of good applicants.
The list of finalists is very strong and I am encouraged that there are so many people who care strongly about the issues faced by our region. I am glad to see that examining (preventing!) sprawl, protecting the environment, preserving clean water, providing public transportation, and prudent land use are high on the public agenda. I hope this means us working together toward good solutions. My objective would have been to stress the correlation between sprawl and institutionalized racial/economic segregation, so we'll keep working from the outside. I do plan on attending my district's public hearing and encourage others to do the same. I think it will be interesting. In past years, peoples' presentations were very thoughtful and informative. -- Nikki Carlson 4035 Sheridan Av. S.
