It seems as if there ought to be a way to use the stop lights on the highway entrances to collect tolls. Very often some space is there in the form of the carpool entrance. Paying the toll would slow folks down. The toll taker could wave on the carpool cars (if there was a decision not to charge carpools).

This isnt necessarily the best-thought out plan but its one direction. In Chicago toll booths can bring traffic to a painful stop. Since we already have a painful stop at the entrance we might as well think about how to use it. Ann

I think Terrell made some good arguments for Senator Day's plan to charge for the use of the 394 HOV lane. Then there was some discussion of toll roads. It seems to me one major issue with implementing toll roads is coming up with a way to add the toll booths -- that's alot of extra lanes at those areas -- and lots of land needed for that. Are there other ways of charging for road use that can avoid this physical need for toll booths?
