People should also understand that SRO was against the rules of MTC and, presumably, MCTO. The rule was that a bus running on a freeway must have a seated load--no standees (aka strap hangers). This is a safety measure. Also, a standing load slows down the vehicle to compensate for the tenuous balance of standees.

http://www.startribune.com/stories/368/4684144.html At the bottom of the article is yet another call to raise some taxes.
"At Wednesday's Central Corridor Partnership news conference, Senkler and Dowell said the group doesn't have a funding solution for regional mass transit. But by this fall, they said, they hope to identify possible revenue streams. Senkler said the discussion is likely to include talk of a metrowide sales tax or increase in the gas tax."
It won't fly.

I remember when MTC wanted to 'absorb' these suburban bus lines so MTC could take over some of that business (and get the revenue--it's always about the money). Good thing that didn't happen.

This is an interesting update on the possible future of light rail growth in the Twin Cities.
One of the interesting issues that this article raised for me, is what the best route would be for a downtown to downtown light rail connection.
As many people know, the University Ave. route is very controversial in St. Paul and I've heard some very persuasive arguments (from light rail supporters), that this route simply doesn't make sense.
So, does anyone have any ideas about what the best route would be for such a line, or what factors are best considered while planning a light rail line.
For example: Some folks have suggested, that University just doesn't have the width to support a light rail line and that the many intersections would force the line to run too slow to be effective.
Any comments?
