Met Council OKs Northstar funding
http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4923299.html

"The Metropolitan Council overwhelmingly approved $2.5 million for the Northstar commuter rail line on Wednesday."

It's a step. A much better route would be for the governor to approve a tax increase to cover the cost. His preferred method of using bonding bills for critical infrastructure is merely a tax on future generations which comes due after his term is up. This is political pandering at its worst.

It's ridiculous that Minnesota has not had a gas tax increase
since the 80's and even more ridiculous that all of the gas
tax revenue must go to roads by constitutional amendment.
This needs to change. We're falling behind our peer cities
fast.

Building Northstar to Big Lake is a start. It needs to go
to St. Cloud. We should also be thinking of high-speed
rail to Duluth, Fargo, etc. There's a lot of opportunity
for businesses to tap into outstate visitors if it is
convenient to get to the Cities, and vice versa, not to
mention the benefit of a relaxing day trip to the north
shore.
