Hi everyone, I've been watching the introductions and other discussion with interest.
My perspective is a bit different, as I'm a consultant and trainer. When new technology comes along, having to figure it out is a given -- what's more challenging is figuring out *which* tools and technologies are going to be important. (Right now, I'm interested in XSL-FO, InDesign/XML integration, custom vs. standard-based XML, and forms-based authoring for part-time content contributors). A few people asked about DITA. As a small business owner, professional growth is really not an issue. I've been running Scriptorium for 10 years now, and every year I've had to stretch and learn.
