Right -- I've never even heard of using a wiki as a place for discussion.
It's just an easily updatable reference. It would make a lovely place to
have a community-updatable FAQ. Benefits: More than one person can update it
so the burden of a standard mailing list FAQ can be distributed among more
people. Having a place for people to go means they don't have to dig through
archives to find frequently discussed topics.
