No, not really reductio ad absurdum. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Milan Davidovic Sent: Mon 2/26/2007 2:39 PM To: TCP List Subject: Re: [TCP] ranting STC > On 2/26/07, Brierley, Sean <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > If the issue were just one of biting off smaller pieces or scaling back, > well why not do nothing?
Reductio ad absurdum. > The solution to this problem is increasing the involvement and activity of > those >people > who have chosen to be members. >But this whole discussion seems -- to me, anyway -- predicated on the >problem that this solution is *not* working. How long have people been >crying the blues about people not participating? Yes, but your solution seems to be to set out an idea, requiring new resources. Where do you get these people who form this group who hatch a plan, execute, and publicize it? How does making new plans fit in with what you previously suggested, about scaling back. You see, the issue is not a lack of members. There are members. The issue is not a lack of ideas. Just got a complaint about a stale Website, as it happens, and previously a strong request that we start a blog. The issue is not motivating the six members who currently make everything happen. The issue is not cash. The issue is, getting those members who are currently inactive to be more active, to get them to step up to provide some of the things they themselves want and are asking for. The solution cannot to be cut back programs, because, the reality is -- and it's not absurd -- that to cut back reduces things to nothing. No. This thread and question has always been about getting members to step up. A Call for Interest can be put out on the chapter Web site, but the the idea and subsequent plan shouldn't be contingent on more people signing on. Then, given who put up their hands at the meeting (and anyone who responded to the public Call), the group hatches a plan, executes, and publicizes.
