Well, now that I've inadvertantly given everyone a good laugh, as well as a lesson in being careful of what you use as an example in your writing... :)
When telling people how to pronounce Gielczyk, I had been using the word guild. But the name isn't gil-check, it's gel-check. My best friend asked me if it was pronounced like the first syllable in gelding, and it is! I didn't consider the meaning. I told Alan about the emails I've received today, and after laughing heartily, he said agrees with all of you who've suggested I choose a different example (he says, "Would you like to buy a vowel?" when he tells people how to spell it). I think I like gecko best. If anyone can think of a word with the hard g, short e, and l sounds, drop me a line offlist. And now, back to our regularly scheduled tech comm discussion. Thanks!
