I just checked... And here's some relevant notes... In 1904, one of the first 20th century technical writing courses was mounted at Tuft's College, "engineering English." In 1911, one of the first known airplane flight manuals is written In 1919, Ford releases a user's guide for the Model T (one of the first examples of task-oriented writing and design for the auto industry). In 1924, Ray Palmer Baker's "The Preparation of Technical Reports" is published, an early tech writing text book.
