Hi all I don't have a problem with an archiving service, and my email address is out on the web often enough that I'm not concerned about that either (though others may be concerned about their email addresses being fairly easily harvested).
I was only asking if this archive site was officially sanctioned by TCP or not, remembering HATT's issue earlier this year. It is, so that's enough for me! Thanks for your explanation, Lisa. The reason I did it was as a service to members and non-members alike, so that they can search the archives of the list and find answers to questions. A closed archive would turn people away; an open archive draws them in, increases our membership, and provides more collective wisdom from which people can get help. If spam is a concern, you might consider using a different email address for email lists than you use for your regular email communication. Personally, I have not seen any increase in spam, and I have not heard anyone else say they have, either. Regarding having what you say available outside of the membership of the list, I've always maintained that you shouldn't say anything in email (on a list or otherwise) that you wouldn't want to see published in the newspaper. If you have a situation to discuss that you don't want your name associated with, like asking for suggestions how to deal with an unreasonable boss, whether or not you're being underpaid and should ask for a raise, how to work with an difficult co-worker, when to give it up and look for a different job, etc., posts can be made anonymously. The TCP list information page (http://techcommpros.com/mailman/listinfo/tcp_techcommpros.com) has a link to the archive. I will change the Welcome message so that when people join the list, they know the archives are public. Rhonda and Sue, and anyone else sharing their concerns, I sincerely hope you will continue to post! If there are any other questions, please let me know.
