Hi Lisa,

I spent a significant portion of my career (more than twelve years) as a 
consultant, interrupted by brief stints on staff (don't ask). I list the staff 
positions chronologically on page 1. On page two, I list the job title as 
Publications Consultant with the date ranges (1989-97, 2002-03, 2006-07). The 
job description is something like this: Consulted with a variety of clients to, 
blah, blah, followed by a bulleted list of the most interesting clients and a 
brief description of each project. Since it's all be software docs, I include a 
phrase that describes the product (to indicate experience with the domain).
