This is a re-intro ... I'm John Garison and after 30+ years as a software tech writer/manager, I moved to the wilds of Vermont and took the closest job I could to my area of expertise: now I'm the Webmaster for Norris Cotton Cancer Center, part of Dartmouth Medical School's academic hospital.
The work is a lot the same, and I do almost exactly what I was doing before, but instead of documenting how a software application works, I write about how people get diagnosed and treated for cancer. Interesting work, and the benefits are excellent. And I get to live in one of the most beautiful places in the country. As someone said, "If you're lucky enough to live in the mountains of Vermont, you're lucky enough." (Although with a two-day snow storm headed our way tomorrow, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. But I'll be out skiing the 6+" of powder, so even the down side has it's silver lining.)
