Hi,

-- I posted this query on Wireshark dev mailing list. But I guess its more
suitable for this mailing list, as this holds for any application using
libpcap. If Guy or someone could pls help. ---

I have built Wireshark from source on my Linux RHEL 4 system, that has libpcap
version 0.8.3 installed.
But when I try to run this Wireshark on a Linux system with RHEL 5 (libpcap
version 0.9.4), I get an error:

"error while loading shared libraries: libpcap.so.0.8.3: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory"

Obviously, Wireshark is looking for the same libpcap version as the one with
which it was built.

My question is: how can I build Wireshark so that it is not statically linked
to a particular libpcap version? Is there a way to dynamically link Wireshark
with libpcap ?
Ideally it should be able to run on any system that has the same or newer
version of libpcap available.

Regards,
Munish
