Hi Glen, I brought up the subject on this mailing list in December 2008 and there were a couple of options for concensus, but I'm afraid I dropped the ball afterwards and didn't follow up. application/pcap application/pcap-capture application/libpcap-capture > application/vnd.tcpdump.org-libpcap pcap cap dmp I'm not sure I like the "vnd." tag for a Free file format, but the paperwork is easier, isn't it? IIRC it was perhaps necessary to write and publish an internet-draft in order to go for the non-"vnd." option. In my case I was seeking to get this defined so that a web server which emits packet captures could stamp them with something better than application/octet-stream and have the user's browser open wireshark when you clicked on the link. -Phil - This is the tcpdump-workers list.
