i wrote earlier.
my filter file contains the following:
(igrp)
tcpdump seems to be crashing on the libpcap function call pcap_compile in
tcpdump.c line 388. does anyone know anything about this problem.
i am running linux.

to answer my own question for anyone else that may care, using todays
version of libpcap works...i.e no core dump
