Fairly simple question: When tcpdump reports it's final packet-count statistics, like the following...
60,492 packets received by filter 60,198 packets dropped by kernel ... am I correct in assuming the TOTAL amount of packets that went across the line was the total of the two figures? (120,690) And am I correct in assuming that the packets dropped were simply packets that the kernel did not have "time" to decode? (perhaps because of size, rate, etc...) This packet count was obtained in 10 seconds, so i am trying to successfully gauge the amount of traffic being generated according to tcpdump. I thank you all for your time and consideration.
