So, you are using 0.7.2 of libpcap right now?

I was going to ask where we are with WinDump integration.
I think that it is mostly done and that we should do a 0.8, 3.8 release.

I know what I want to do for tcpdump 4.0 - get rid of the all the globals,
and generate a "libnetdissect.a" that can be linked into other programs.

For libpcap 1.0 (which isn't necessarily on the same schedule), I think
that we should consider format changes. Specifically to be able to
     1) cat pcap files together to merge them.
     2) be able to store meta data in the file.

If there is a useful pre-existing format that already permits these, maybe
just switching is the right thing. The third thought is that maybe the
best format is ASCII, with possible gzip on top. (Can we "cat" together
gzip'ed files?)
